The average precipitation is 66.8 inches per year.  The average snowfall is 243 inches per year.   The minimum annual snowfall is 243 inches and the maximum annual snowfall is 879 inches.


The lake is often unsafe for small watercraft due to its high winds and big waves.  The lake has 21 miles of shoreline which is circular in shape and has very few areas which are sheltered.   The risk of capsizing is very high compounded by the fact that the water temperature is low.   It is also a large body of water which is subject to some quickly occurring weather changes.
